Chysauster. Romano-British settlement, occupied from middle Iron Age until the end of the Roman occupation 4th century AD. The village of stone-walled 'courtyard houses with central courtyard surrounded by thatched rooms. Found in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The occupiers of the village were farmers who grew cereal crops in surrounding fields and probably kept pigs and goats. This picture shows one of the socket stone for a wooden roof pillar.
