An Osteospermum plant with roots that have become pot-bound and which now needs transplanting.

Houseplants become root bound if they are kept in the same pot beyond the point when they need transplanting into a larger container. Plants should be re-potted every two or three years to avoid the condition which will lead to the plant eventually suffocating itself from lack of water.
