Grey sky view white seats by the entrance steps below grey stonework ramparts Fort Frederick, St George's, Grenada, West Indies
Fort Frederick, on Richmond Hill, was started by the French to secure their position after capturing Grenada from the British in 1779 (the British having taken the island from the French in 1762, during the Seven Years War). The French attacked from inland, so, not wanting to be caught out in the same way as the British, who were expecting an attack from the sea, they constructed Fort Frederick with its guns facing inland.
