A C19th public drinking fountain built over an ancient holy well dedicated to St Cedd who founded a monastery at Lastingham in AD654. In main village street, beside bridge across Hole Beck, E of St Mary's church which stands on the site of Cedd's abbey. The Georgian fountain, supplied by mains water, was built using stone taken from the ruins of Rosedale Priory.
