Kadikoy, Istanbul -- Barricades are lit during clashes between protesters and the police in Kadikoy, Istanbul during nationwide protests in Turkey. Police fire tear gas and protesters respond with fireworks. Those that take shelter in near by coffee shops don their gas masks, the rest wash their faces with milk as the gas contains a chemical agent that burns skin and lungs. Following the death of Berkin Elvan, a 15 year old boy hit by a tear gas canister during Gezi Park protests, people of all walks of life started gathering in public squares in several cities to protest police violence.
