In planting the roots cover the crown withtwo inches of soil. A deep lively loam is preferableand the ground about the plants, as with roses, shouldbe worked well. Early in the fall is the best time to procure andtransplant the roots, although this may be done inthe spring. A better growth is maintained, and theplants more floriferous if the ground is mulched insummer for the purpose of keeping the roots moist,and if some coarse
