A historical stone built house built by an pioneering Englishman, George Goldring. It is the first stone building (1878-80) in Queensland,Australia. Cairdbeign Homestead and school is a museum, full of pioneering living at Rainworth fort, a Queensland heritage site near Springsure in the Central Highlands. George Goldring built the house and school, using locally sourced materials-burned lime bricks and basalt boulders. The walls were cemented with a mortar with a mix of sand, lime and crushed basalt. It is believed that the roof was clad with galvanised iron, one of the first used in the area.
