USN P22 (Rhine Maiden) Gunboat moored at the Quay, Sandwich Kent

The P22 Gunboat is truly a unique historic vessel as she was built by the Germans to an American design and then operated by the Americans for six years before being handed to the German Army to continue the important role of patrolling the River Rhine. The USN P22 is currently being made into a working Museum and War Veteran Centre where veterans of any Nationality can meet up and share their stories in a unique historical environment and weather permitting possibly taking a trip into the bay to give them a real historical nudge. P22 was built in Germany in 1953 for the US Navy Rhine Patrol, monitoring the Russian border during the Cold War. Sandwich is now her home port but she'll be at the Southampton boat show in September
