A gauze bandage helps stop bleeding from a punction site where blood was taken.

When blood is drawn for any reason a health professional will wrap an elastic band around the upper arm to slow the blood flow. This makes the vein enlarge and will be much easier to inject with a needle. Then they will clean the site with alcohol. After inserting the needle into the vein a tube will be attached which will fill with blood. When enough blood has been drawn they use a cotton gauze to apply direct pressure to the site.
