Calyx . career at Winchester, Kv., his longlegs ha\e been growing longer, while he has beentripping about in the blue grass of his nativeState, or on the polished floor of the DoremusGymnasium. But do not gather from the abovethat Jabe is an old tea hound. Since he came to W. & L. in the fall of 1917,he has safely treaded the mazes of the Engineer-ing School: he has rowed on the .\lbert SidneyBoat Crew, and gained the name of a true manand a true friend. He graduates with the degreeof , and ex-pects to go to Cornell to specializein electrical engineering; but we have a notionthat he loves Kentuckv horses, and other Ken-tuckv products, too well to take up the roWnglife of an engineer. Some day, after he has settled in the bluegrass section, with thoroughbred horses, and aracing car, and also a private still, and perhapsa beautiful wife—we know not what else—wethink he will go to the legislature, and live be-loved and respected in his native State as he hasbeen at W. & John Wesley Bell ThompsonWaynesboro, Virginia 2N Dad entered Washington and Lee last yearas a Junior. Turning back to the fall of 1915we find him at V. P. I. where he stayed twoyears. The next two years were spent in achieve-ments along another line, and Dad returnedfrom the war a captain. Seeking peace andquietude he came to W. & L. where his successhas continued. The highest chemistry courseswere easy for him, and as for electrical engineer-ing, well, our hats are off to him there. He plansto follow this line and we know that he willsu. ceed. The world wants men who can deliverthe goods. and Dad can do that. Furthermore, Dad has not neglected theother things that go to make up a well roundedfellow. He is a good baseball player, and some-thing of a ladies man to boot. \Ve expect himto settle down soon: some think they can guesswith whom. \\ashington and Lee loses and theworld gains a good man. 100
