Va., drawsits power supply from a plant located at Kenova, operated by the Consolidated Light, Heat & PowerCompany. Both of these properties are controlled bythe American Railways Company, Philadelphia, to the rapidly increasing load on this power plant, which was originally designed by James Fagan, it hasbeen necessary to make successive improvements withinthe past few years, one of the most notable of whichhas been the installation of a pumping plant for con-. The increasing demand on the plant can be realizedfrom the fact that its output is now 70,000,000 annum, as compared with 15,000,000 eightyears ago. The overload on the plant, in overtaxingthe condensers due to their limited supply of cool con-densing water, resulted in a coal consumption of about34 lb. per kilowaft-hour. Due partly to the installation of the new condensing-water circulating equipment, the coal consumption hasbeen cut down to about 2 lb., and it is estimated thatthe cost of the improvement, $150,000, will have beencovered by the saving effected in about ten monthsof operation. A vacuum of from 28 to 29 in. referredto a 30-in. barometer can now be maintained. Power Plant Has an Assorted Equipment When this plant was taken over by the AmericanRailways in 1910 the ge
