Paris' itinerary. Map produced by Matthew of Paris (? - 1259) in the 13th century depicting the route of an imagined pilgramage to the Holy Land. This section shows Jerusalem and the East. Matthew of Paris was an English historian and monk who lived in the Abbey at St. Albans. This convent was one of the primary academic institutions of its day, and Paris was its historiographer. He wrote a history of the world, Chronica Majora, and a history of England, Chronica Minora. Taken from A Book Of Discovery by Synge (1912).
