Original early 1900's WW1 era postcard of St. James' Dairy shop / grocery store with female proprietor / owner or staff / assistant and her child, wonderful selection of brands such as Nevill's bread, Tate cube sugar, Armitage, Lyons cocoa and tea. New laid eggs sold loose. London, circa 1915
The Nevill's sign in the shop leads to the conclusion that this is a London-based shop in the St. James area - H. W. Nevill was a large bakery business in London from 1852 until 1969. From the outbreak of the First World War in 1914, Over the following years H. W. Nevill Ltd. concentrated more and more on supplying bread to other bakers and grocers and the company’s own shops were closed. The hemline of the lady's skirt indicates this photo dates to circa 1915
