The one exhibits the entombment of the Baptist,whose headless body is being placed in a sarcophagus by threemen in rich dresses. The other shows the Decollation, an execu-tioner holding up the head which Salome receives in a charger, 1 The tent was probably placed between the blades of each pair of shearsoriginally, though only one now exists. 20. the body falling forward, while the blood gushes from the severedneck. The costume of the figures is of the late fifteenth century:the swordsman dressed as a landsknecht, having a cap withfeathers, a vest slashed in front, tight-fitting hose in one piecefrom the waist to the feet, and broad-toed shoes ; Salome with aveil flying behind her head-dress and a long gown, over which isa jacket with long wide sleeves trimmed with ermine. Middle, 76 inches long x 22 inches. Flaps, 15 inches deep. The pall, which was customarily used at the burial of abrother of the Mysterie, was doubtless made for the Company,and its approximate date is fixed by the costumes in the scene ofthe Decollation. It is probably the 6 buriying clothe kept in adeal chest mentioned in the Inventory of 1512, but it is difficult toidentify it with either of the Cloths of Black Velvett w
