Horizontal close up of Brunelleschi's dome and the amazing 'Last Judgement' frescoes by Vasari from the inside of the cathedral 'duomo'. The 16th-century frescoes of the Last Judgment in Santa Maria del Fiore, are once again visible to the public after a lengthy period of restoration and cleaning. The cupola, with its cherubim, demons and prophets, was painted by Giorgio Vasari between 1572 and 1574, and completed by Federico Zuccari in 1579. The amazing frescoes cover an area of about 14,000 square feet and the sophisticated restoration work began in 1989 and officially ended in 2006.
