Original caption: Due to the abundant drainage from the bank on the uphill side of the road it has been necessary to remove a large amount of earth more than would be necessary for a road of this width under normal conditions. A-It is hoped that during the winter ice will pile up in this pit instead of building up on the road, however, an alternate winter trail is being built using the ice on the river if necessary. State: Alaska.
