Vatten Neolithic chambered cairns, Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK, looking SSE to Loch Caroy & the Cuillin Hills: kerbed Hebridean round cairns.

Vatten Neolithic chambered cairns, Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK, looking SSE to Loch Caroy & the Cuillin Hills. Neither cairn has been excavated but they have been disturbed at times & signs of upright stones & flat lintel slabs revealed. They are most probably chambered round cairns of the Hebridean group. Each cairn appears to have been built on a low circular platform edged by a kerb of large stones. The mounds feature in folklore as the burial place of a great chief who was brought home dead from a raiding mission, or the burial mounds of members of the MacDonald & MacLeod clans who slaughtered each other in a battle in the mist.
