View W of South Yarrows Iron Age broch (R), Caithness, Scotland, UK, with an outer enclosure & later outbuildings (wags) to the side. The wags are long rectangular structures which had two rows of upright stones just inside the long walls to help support a roof: one stone is visible against the wall in the centre of the photo. The broch is on the shore of Yarrows Loch & was protected by a ditch running into the loch on either side. The wags were cleared out in 1866-7 but became flooded when the level of the loch was artificially raised. They are similar to other wags in Caithness, most notably Forse Wag near Latheron.
