As the old Rose Tree Inn is so thoroughlyidentified with the club, it may be interesting togive some insight into the history of it. Thepresent stone eastern end of the old house wasstanding, we have good authority for saying, asfar back as 1796, and perhaps much earlier, as itslocation is on one of the old leading highways ofthe county, which was laid out and opened bythe Commissioners of William Penn. Attachedto the western end of this old stone house for manyyears was a frame addition, which was removed in1837, and the present stone western end was builtby George Cummins, the then owner and landlord;his widow, Mrs. Matilda Cummins, keeping thehouse after his death for many years; and in hertime it was celebrated for its sleighing parties, as it. HowardLewis large four-horse sleigh, and to dance ateach, as there were always plenty of prettycountry girls ready and willing to enjoy thecountry dances. George Cumm
