Sociable weaver bird nest. Close-up of a nest built by a sociable weaver (Philetairus socius) bird colony. The sociable weaver builds large communal nests providing shelter for up to 400 birds from the extreme temperatures of their savannah habitat. The nest is thatched (not woven) from grass, straw and twigs. Photographed in the Kalahari Desert, Southern Africa.
