The person in the sledgeguides the reindeer with a cord fastened round the horns,and encourages it to proceed with his voice, Avhile hedrives it with a goad. When urged strongly, the reindeerwill travel fifty or sixty miles at one stretch; but in sucha case the poor creature works itself to death, and gene-rally dies in a day or two afterwards.
