In 1917, however, he resigned inorder to accept the appointment of postmaster of Balboa, receiving his commission onMarch 16. He was chairman of the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce,and it is not surprising that he has almost doubled the volume of business of theBalboa postoffice since he took hold—a fact that speaks well for both Balboa and itspostmaster. In 1881, Mr. Jumper was married to Miss Ellen Fabb. a native of England, whois sfill living, and they have become the parents of five children. Fred T. is an oilman at Ojai. Eva A. is the wife of H. Harry is assistant city engineer and resides atBalboa. And Albert P. is an automobile mechanic employed by Rodger Bros., andwas in France during the war in the One Hundred Forty-fourth Artillery. Harry wasalso in the naval aviation service, while H. J. Henry was in the machine gun service inthe Ninety-first Division, and received the French decoration of the Croix de Guerre. Reared a Baptist, Mr. Jumper has been a member of the Odd Fellows since hewas twenty-one. and has filled all the offices, so that he is past grand of Riverside LodgeNo. 282; and he belongs to the Star Encampment of Riverside, No. Ti, where he ispast chief patriarch.
