Polleu left the church of his own accord in 1760, and the venerable society was againinvited to send over a successor ; but they neglecting to replyand withholding their annual allowance, the church called totheir charge the Reverend Marmaduke Brown of Portsmouth,whom they settled with a salary of one hundred pounds ster-ling per annum, provided the English society did not continuetheir mission in Newport.
