W G, SHELLArchitect AECHANieAL AND ELECTHCAL AMD or TME 12. ^off^ % HE new Shell Building at the north-west corner of Bush and Battery Streets,San Francisco, is one of the latest struc-tures to be added to San Franciscos groupof modern buildings. The main mechani-cal plant of the Shell Building is locatedin a sub basement thirty-two feet below thesidewalk, under the Bush and Battery cor-ner. In this space are located the boilers, feedwater heater, pumps, water treating equip-ment and tanks. At a slightly higher level,in the same room, are placed the incinera-tor, vacuum sweeper and pneumatictube machines, air compressors, circulat-ing hot water heaters and the engineersoffice. On a mezzanine balcony, over theBattery Street end of the mechanical plant,are located the ventilating fans for theboiler room.
