Other investigators, amongthem Klebs, Ziehl, and C. Friedlander, have found various micro-organismsin the lymph channels, and in the alveoli of pneumonic lungs. Some ofthese germs have been encapsulated. It remained, however, for Fraenkel tofind the specific germ causing this disease. Weichselbaum was one of thefirst to prove the positive specific infection of the Fraenkel diplococcus is found not only in the lungs, but frequently also in themeninges, in the nasal secretions from the nasal mucous membrane, and attimes in the kidneys.
