Brain haemorrhage. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of an axial section through the brain of a patient with an intracranial haemorrhage. Masses of blood (haematomaa, pale grey) are seen at top. Bleeding (haemorrhage) in the brain occurs when a blood vessel, such as an artery, ruptures. In this cause it was due to a road traffic accident. The area of the brain supplied by the ruptured artery may die due to lack of oxygenated blood, leading to a stroke.
