Length of the snout up to the eyes more than half the length of the head up to the gill-openings. Papilla before the anus compressed and concealed. Pectoral equal in length to the space between the posterior nostril and the eye. Body much com- pressed, -with a transverse diameter equal to one-fourth of its height. Head without markings, blackish above, smoky white laterally. Fins yellowish-brown, without bands. Four dark longi- tudinal stripes on tlie sides.
