CURRENT EVENTS AND THE KINGDOM. MARY HOLMES SEMINARY. The building occupied by this school forcolored girls was destroyed by fire January31, 1894. It was valued at $25,000; and$12,000 will be required, with the insurance,to replace it. There were 120 pupils inattendance, with eleven teachers. The en-forced closing, for the present, of this school,which was opened September 28, 1892, is aserious loss to the work of the PresbyterianChurch among the Negroes. The fourth annual Negro Conference at theNormal and Industrial Institute, Tuskegee,Alabama, was held February 20, 1895. The700 in attendance last year represented200,000 Negroes in the Black Belt.
