Vitamin B12 and CblC enzyme. Molecular model of a form of the enzyme cofactor vitamin B12 (, left) interacting with the CblC enzym

Vitamin B12 and CblC enzyme. Molecular model of a form of the enzyme cofactor vitamin B12 (, left) interacting with the CblC enzyme (ribbons). This early step in the intracellular processing of vitamin B12 involves duel reactivity of the enzyme, which catalyses various reactions. Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin with a key role in the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system, and for blood formation. Atoms (spheres) of the B12 molecule are colour-coded: carbon (grey), hydrogen (white), cobalt (pink), nitrogen (blue), oxygen (red), and phosphorus (yellow).
