The pig has a small stomach and small intestines, which fact requires that the greater part of its ration be made up of grain or other concentrated feed. Such rough feeds as alfalfa and clover hay, which have a high food value and many fine stems and leaves, are relished by hogs, and may be made to supply a large part of the sow's ration during winter months, when she is not producing milk for her pigs. Hogs that are being fattened must have an abundance of concentrates and little or no roughage.
