THE CONNECTIVE TISSUES. 37. Subcutaneous areolar tissue : c, c, some of the connective-tissuecorpuscles ; w, migratory cells ; v, plasma-cell; e, elastic fibres. In addition, occasional peculiar granule-cells must be elements, entirely distinct constituents of connective tissues, often appear spherical in form, and are distinguished by the con-spicuous granularity of their protoplasm, the granules possessing astrong affinity for eosin and many aniline stains. The granule-cellsoccur in especial pro-fusion in the vicinity Fig. blood-vessels, andseem to be intimatelyconnected with theformation of adiposetissue. In contrast to theselarger connective-tis-sue elements, irregu-larly round or ovoidsmaller cells are oftenpresent, which, fromtheir ability to changetheir position as well as form, are termed the wandering cells. These consist of small, nucleated masses of active protoplasm, characteristic of the lymph orcolorless blood-cells with which they are identical, usually beingreally leucocytes
