Ardestie Earth House, Monifieth,

Ardestie Earth House located one mile north of Monifieth. The Ardestie Earth House is a curved underground structure, 80 feet (24m) in length, that was once the cellar to a round house. It would have been used as a chamber for storage or a cattle shelter. It could also have been used as a place of safety when hiding from marauding tribesmen or sea faring enemies. Dating from the Iron Age, it is now under the stewardship of Historic Scotland.
