According to the 1860 directory, Alexander probably had a brother named William, who is probably the subject on the right in this photograph. William served as the Captain of Co. E, 3rd U. S. R. C. from May 8 - Aug 18, 1861. He later served as a commander of Co. B, 19th Missouri Volunteer Infantry, which later consolidated with the 3rd Missouri Volunteer Regiment (of which he is listed as a major in Co. H).
