The haemoglobin usually increases or diminishes with in-crease or diminution of the red cells. If there is any variation from thispercentage, the determination of this variation is known as the a healthy individual with 5,000,000 red cells per cubic millimetrethe normal percentage of haemoglobin should be 100. We then say thecolor-index = 1. If the haemoglobin is diminished, the color-index isless than 1. The color-index is estimated, first, by reducing the count ofthe cells to a percentage; second, by dividing this percentage into thehaemoglobin percentage.
