The caravans follow the unending line of the Tian-Shan mountains from Hami in the east to old Tashkend on the Bokhara railway. The only break in the monstrous plains of sand-dunes and sparsely clothed steppes are scattered caravanserais and the white fangs of the mountains. Artist/engraver/cartographer: Engraved by D. Carruthers. Provenance: "Countries of the World". Type: Book illustration.
