EYE, DRAWING

The eye is the organ which makes vision possible. It is hollow and its shell is made up of three distinct membranes. The outermost membrane is the corneosclera, the anterior part of which forms the cornea, a transparent, convex structure which is bathed by aqueous humour and performs light refraction. The middle membrane is known as the uvea, and consists of the posterior uvea (the choroid) and the anterior uvea (the iris and the pupil). Images traverse the cornea, aqueous humour, crystalline lens and the vitreous body to form on the retina, the innermost membrane of the eye, made up of photoreceptor cells which transform light into nervous signals which are then sent by the optic nerve to the brain for processing.
