Township house upgraded at private cost, Grahamstown, South Africa

The Government allows township residents to upgrade their houses at private cost, but they are not allowed to sell them until they have lived there for fifteen years. It is assumed anyone spending money on an upgrade will not want to move before such time has elapsed. This brick and breeze-block bungalow is cement rendered and painted. Its low pitched, painted roof is corrugated iron. A waste pipe from an internal toilet is visible. It is large and modern looking.
