DAVID DENNY, who died 16th Dec. 1845, aged 78 yrs.; Having been pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Chambersburg from 1801-1838, when he resigned his pastoral charge from the infirmities of age, respected and revered. During Mr. Dennys pastorate the second church build-ing in the lower part of the congregation was built. Theirfirst structure was of log, about twenty-four feet squareand covered with clap-board shingles. This was built in1770. The second structure was about forty feet square,built of logs, but lined inside, walls and ceiling, with boardsand was completed in 1794. After Mr. Dennys departure the church was withoutstated means of grace for a period of two years. Then inthe Fall of 1802, Mr. Amos McGinley was called to becomepastor of the united congregations. McGinley. Mr. McGinley was born near Fairfield, Adams County,Pa., March 1778, of John McGinley and Jane (Alexander)McGinley. His grandfather emigrated from Ireland andwith four others purchased Carrolls Tract, which wasentered on the records as being in York County—nowAdams. His grandmother was from Holland and boththese, as well as his parents, were members of the Presby-terian Church. They were sturdy stock and are representedas being intelligent and pious people. He was a child ofthe Covenant and early in life showed a disposition to seekHis glory.
