Detail of former Kaiserliches Postamt, now an Hotel and brew-pub, Parchim, mecklenburg, Germany.
Parchim is halfway between the Hamburg and Berlin urban areas and is also easily accessible from Germany's Baltic coast; geographers describe the region around the town as a "terminal moraine" ecosystem, with glacial activity carving hills into the region's landscape. The remote and lush region is home to the largest Douglas fir trees in Europe, countless moors and well developed tourist facilities. The town's region is marked by the Müritz-Elde waterway which runs past the town, which itself is surrounded by thick forests that are worth a visit regardless of whether it be summer or winter. The town's outstanding heritage sites and the charming architecture of its Brick Gothic buildings and timber-framed houses will leave the visitor wanting more.
