Tarsus, bordering iipon Phosnicia, and having ready access toEgypt, would have its mythology tinctured with that of its of the PhcBnicians, Osiris of Egypt, and Apollo of the Greeks, allembody the myths originating in the worship of the sim. This pecu-liarity in the figuie before us quite accords with the locality where itwas found. Tliere is a coin of Tarsus on which Apollo is seated upona mount, with a lyre in his hand, indicating the presiding influence ofthat deity at the schools.
