The chancel (sanctuary) of the Church of St Mary, Holy Island, Northumberland, England, UK, showing the handmade carpet based on a page from the Lindisfarne Gospels. The unique carpet, made on the island, is based on one of the 'carpet-pages' of the famous Lindisfarne Gospels produced here in the late C7th or early C8th by Bishop Eadfrith. The parish church is mainly C13th, built in Early English style but incorporating earlier Norman masonry. The painted glass in the east lancet windows was made in 1883 by Mayer & Co. of Munich. There is a reredos (screen) behind the altar & a credence (serving table) to the S side.
