When leaving his post there asambassador Mr. Meyer received from His Majesty the King ofItaly, the order of St. Maurice and of St. Lazarus. In March, 1905, Mr. Meyer was transferred by President Roose-velt to St. Petersburg, Russia, where he succeeded AmbassadorRobert S. McCormack, appointed to the post in 1902, and he ablyrepresented the Government of the United States during the tryingtimes of the Russo-Japanese War; and the internal dissensions inRussia that followed the peace between the two Nations.
