Renaissance architecture by architect Juan de Herrera in the cathedral monument of the city of Valladolid, Castile and Leon, Spain, Europe
The Cathedral of Valladolid, conceived in the sixteenth century and designed by the architect Juan de Herrera, Herrera-style building with Baroque additions. Also known by the name of his church, a cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption and episcopal see of the Archdiocese of Valladolid, this is an unfinished work, mainly due to lack of resources and costs relating to the foundation of the temple, located in an area with a large gap in the field. Obtained the status of cathedral in 1595, having been a collegiate church dependent on the diocese of Palencia. It is located in the center of the city, in a slightly elevated position, near the Church of Santa Maria La Antigua and built next to the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria, former collegiate church of Valladolid, where some areas were destroyed to proceed with new works. La Catedral de Valladolid, concebida en el siglo XVI y diseñada por el arquitecto Juan de Herrera, es un edificio de estilo herreriano con añadidos barrocos. Conocida también con el nombre de su advocación, Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, y sede episcopal de la archidiócesis de Valladolid, se trata de una obra inconclusa, debido principalmente a la falta de recursos y a los gastos provocados por la cimentación del templo, situado en una zona con un gran desnivel en el terreno. Obtuvo la categoría de catedral el año 1595, tras haber sido un templo colegial dependiente de la diócesis de Palencia. Está situada en el centro de la ciudad, en una zona ligeramente elevada, cerca de la Iglesia de Santa María La Antigua y construida junto a la Colegiata de Santa María, anterior iglesia colegial de Valladolid, algunos de cuyos espacios fueron destruidos para continuar con las nuevas obras.
