Dante Alighieri (1265 - 1321) was an Italian poet and moral philosopher best known for the epic poem The Divine Comedy. On the surface, the poem describes Dante's travels through Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise, but at a deeper level, it represents, allegorically, the Christian soul's journey towards God.
