Nursery stock Pennsylvania Philadelphia Catalogs; Flowers Pennsylvania Catalogs; Vegetables Pennsylvania Catalogs; Seeds Pennsylvania Catalogs. BURPEE'S FARM ANNUAL. 9 BURPEE'S NEW TOMATO, :THE CARDINAL.; This new Tomato, now offered for the first time, was discovered four years since, in a field of Acmes, from which it was readily distinguished, not only by the fruit, but also by the foliage, which is entirel}'^ distinct. It has been carefully cultivated, and maintains a remarkable perfection in all that can be desired in a Tomato. 1st. In color it is most remarkable, coloring right up to the calyx, and every specimen of virtually one color, and that the most brilliant cardi- nal red, very glossy, looking, when ripe, almost as if varnished. It is the most beautiful of all Tomatoes. 2d. The flesh appears of the same brilliant color, being scarcely any lighter. They make the handsomest sliced tomatoes imaginable, and have absolutely no green core. 3d. Fewness of Seed. Al- though this claim is generally made for every new Tomato, it is a fact that, by actual weight and measure test. The Cardinal has at least one-th,ird less seed than the verj'- best of other varie- ties. The thickness of pulp is most remarkable. 4tll. In shape it is perfect, being uniformly smooth, free from any ridges or corrugations. It is as smooth as a ball and so thoroughbred" that there are no variations. 5th,, It is as early as any good To- mato, and is much larger in size than Livingston's Perfection. 6th. None equal to it in evenness of ripening—so many Tomatoes in the same stage at the same time. It is uniformly of the same large size through- out the entire season, while Paragon, after the first fruits, decreases in size. 7th. It has less acidity than any other Tomato, and is of very superior flavor. 8th. It is very solid and of wonder- ful firmness. Ripe fruits picked in midsummer have kept in fine conditio
