These cards were taken dur-ing a test made by Mr. J. B. Allfree and Mr. Ira C.~Hubbell and every feature of the test was observed withthe greatest care. The cards were taken from a high-speed stationary engine having cylinders 14 ins. by 15ins. The dotted diagram was taken while the engine wasoperated with an automatic valve gear, the clearance inthis instance being 6 per cent, the maximum clearance:to be obtained with the cylinders of this engine.
