The Mull of Galloway Lighthouse, Dumfries & Galloway.

The Mull of Galloway is Scotland’s most southerly point and the Lighthouse provides a beacon for shipping passing through the channel between the Rhins of Galloway and Northern Ireland. The 26m (85 feet) high light comprises a white tower which sits on top of a cliff, increasing its height to 99m (324 feet). Established in 1830 at a cost of almost £9000 and built by Robert Stevenson (1772 - 1850), the light has a range of 28 miles (45 km). The light was converted to electricity in 1971 using a sealed-beam light unit, demanned and automated in 1988. It is now remotely monitored from the Northern Lighthouse Board's headquarters in Edinburgh.
