Plate 1: Cape Raoullookingsouthwardsfrom Eucalyptus aff. tenuiramis September, 1975 181 On well-drained sites with shallowsoils Casuarina monilifera, Leucopogoncollinus, Pultenaea juniperina, Banksiamarginata, Pimelea nivea, Daviesiaulicifolia and Diplarrena moraea areamong the most abundant species. The extremely exposed chfftopareas on the south of Cape Raoulsupport species such as Helichrysumscutellifolium, Olearia axillaris, Lepto-spermum sericeum, Calytrix tetragona,Epacris myrtifolia, Spyridium obo-vatum and Callistemon pallidas, notfound elsewhere in the heaths. Someof these species including the first twonamed have the rounded cushion formcommon in coastal shrubs (Parsonsand Gin, 1968). Others, such as thelatter two species, have adopted anespaher form. The species Hst (Appendix) indicatesthe environmental range of eachspecies in the heath as a whole. Aninteresting feature revealed by thespecies list is the concentration ofendemic species in the exposed chff-top environment. Heaths, by definition, are treelesscommunities, and the lack of trees
