Cupids Harbour looking towards Seaforest Drive, Cupids, Conception Bay, Newfoundland, Canada. Showing the Legacy Centre

Looking across to the Canada with United Church of Canada and Legacy Centre in Cupids Harbour on Seaforest Drive, Cupids, Conception Bay, Newfoundland, Canada. In August, 1610, English colonists led by Bristol merchant John Guy arrived at Cupids on the north side of Conception Bay on Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula and established an English settlement. English settlement in Newfoundland and Labrador and the rest of British North America grew to become what is now English Canada. But it all started in 1610 with John Guy’s fateful choice of Cupids as his new home. In 1995, evidence of their colony was uncovered and since then, the remains of six early 17th-century structures and more than 147,000 artefacts have been unearthed.
