Making Surimono for New Year, A woodcarver works on a block while the fashionably dressed young woman in the foreground prints a print. In front of her a stack of paper; next to her a tray of red and green dye and a brush; on the other side a stack of prints printed in red and green. This surimono is also thought to depict Hokusai at work with his daughter Ôei. The print was probably commissioned by the poet Nanzan, because of the reference to his name on the room screen., print maker: Katsushika Hokusai, (mentioned on object), Edo, 1825, paper, height 211 mm × width 186 mm
